Alex van Warmerdam (b. 1952, Haarlem) is a Dutch film director, theatre director, writer and poet. He is not so widely known as a painter and graphic designer. For The Raft. Art is (not) lonely Van Warmerdam painted a cinemascopic image on a huge canvas. We see two men on a raft, but everything in the scene indicates a sterile, urban environment. Like commuters waiting stoically for their train, the duo drift around on a perfectly finished wooden platform.
