Jacques Lizène (°1946, Luik)
Artworks by this artist
Naufrage installation, 1964-2011
On one side of a cross-sectioned cabinet, we see the stern of a frigate, and on the other side, the bow of a sailing ship. The whole is crowned with a retrieved canvas: one of the ‘meninas’ by Velázquez was painted over with a death mask. On the wall beside the capsized piece of furniture, we see a video in which artist Jacques Lizène (b. 1946, Liège) performs a ‘Danse nulle’, slowly subsiding until he disappears from the screen completely.
