The sculpture by Andy Wauman (b. 1975, Wilrijk), crafted from white Balinese limestone, is a floor plan and a bas-relief. De Tempel van Verandering is about relationships between religion and its associated symbolism and architecture. The butterfly symbolizes transience and fragility, but it is also a powerful symbol of hope and change. Witnesses claim a white butterfly descended onto The Raft of the Medusa right before the ‘salvation’. The words on the butterfly’s wings accordingly mean ‘raft’ and ‘afloat’ in Sanskrit.
