JULIAO SARMENTO

Julião Sarmento (b. 1948, Lisbon) plays with the fragmented in his work: the figures he depicts seem to be unfinished, as if something is missing or has been erased. Thematically he charts sensuality, voyeurism and transgression. Just like many artists in The Raft. Art is (not) lonely, he consciously pushes the boundaries of media. Sarmento’s new work for the exhibition has about the same impressive dimensions as Géricault’s The Raft of the Medusa.
